Mr. Layman was the surviving member of the Martin Lahman family of 15 children.
He had worked for the Shenk Hatchery and the Weaver Hatchery before retiring and was a member of Weavers Mennonite Church.
Mr. Layman was born Dec. 18, 1897, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Martin A. and Kate Shank Lahman.
On July 21, 1923, he married Nina Heatwole Layman, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Ruth Yost of Columbia, Md.; a son Wilbur C. Layman of Harrisonburg; a foster son, Charles Comer of Fulks Run; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Weavers Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
