Norris Franklin Godwin spent his growing up and teen years living between Oklahoma and Texas.

When he was 17 the family sold the farm, packed up their belongings and moved to Pedley, CA., eventually settling in Riverside. Shortly after arriving in Riverside, he enlisted in the Navy and met his soon to be life-long sweetheart, Betsy Jane Ross.

After a short courtship, Norris and Betsy were married and Norris immediately left for boot camp. After serving in the Navy during World War II, he settled first in Highgrove, CA., then Riverside before moving to Santa Maria, his home for most of his adult life.

While living in Santa Maria, he worked as a civil servant at Vandenberg Air Force Base prior to his retirement in 1976.

He loved Jesus and spent the last several years of his life looking forward to the day he would wake up in Heaven with his parents and younger sister.

Dearly loved by his family, Norris is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betsy, two daughters, Cynthia Holbrook of Yorba Linda and Pam Freitas of Santa Clarita, a son-in-law, Mark, six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Inez Holmes, Willis Godwin and Darlene Fringer all of Riverside, CA.

Dad, we will still be looking for you over Gaviota Pass.
