Fred Nation was born in Azle July 1, 1912, the "baby" of 12 siblings. He was a graduate of North Side High School and a cheerleader for the class of 1929. He made a career in the insurance business, operating Fred Nation Insurance, an independent insurance agency in Fort Worth, from 1951 until his retirement in 1984. He was a past grand master of Azle Masonic Lodge and former district deputy grand master for the Grand Lodge of Texas. He was an avid bass fisherman, noted for his tall tales and quick wit. For 49 years, he was married to Gene Minick Nation, who preceded him in death in 1984.
