James Lloyd Bennett, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 90 years of age.

James was born January 28, 1921 in Cleburne, Texas, the son of Franklin M. Bennett and Arline (Lloyd) Bennett. He was a graduate of Cleveland, Oklahoma High School. James served his country in the United States Navy and was present at the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was married to Lucinda Blanda. He worked for over 30 years with Continental Oil Company as a welder. He was a 45 year member of the Eastern Heights Christian Church of Ponca City. His enjoyments included fishing, working on cars, bird hunting and had served as a judge at various field trials.

He is survived by his three daughters, Janet VanHoesen of Ponca City, Marcy Cudd of Moore, Oklahoma, and Laurie Bennett of Ponca City; one sister, Hazel Marie Zeamer of Florida; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; two children, James L. Bennett Jr. and Michael Monroe; three brothers, Franklin M. Bennett Jr., Billy Bert Bennett and J. Emery Bennett; two sisters, Betty Sue Bennett Carlisle and Nellana Bennett White; one granddaughter, Phillian Bennett Stark.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Eastern Heights Christian Church with Mark Berry presiding.
