Blanche Rodgers Bates was born to William Rodgers and Melinda Bryson Rodgers on August 23, 1898 and departed this life June 20, 1994 at the age of 95 years. She was born in a combination dugout and sod house on the Rodgers homestead southwest of Stamford, NE. She attended rural school and then graduated from Beaver City High School with the class of 1919.
As a young girl she was immersed into Christ and served her Lord faithfully as long as her health allowed. She taught for many years in Beaver City Christian church in any capacity needed.
She also taught in rural schools until her marriage to Adam Bates on April 6, 1924 in Norton, KS. To this union two sons were born, LaVerne and Verlyn. After the death of her husband in 1942 she returned to teaching in rural schools. In 1956 she started working as a caseworker for Social Services and served in that capacity until retirement in the early 1970's.
She leaves to mourn her passing a son LaVerne Bates and wife Wilma, daughter-in-law Ila Bates, Sister Sylvia Rodgers, sisters-in-law Rhoda Rodgers and Belle Palmer, 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grand-children, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Alvin Rodgers, husband Adam Bates, son Verlyn Bates, and grandson Rodger Bates.
Blanche was a loving mother and grandmother and a faithful friend.
Funeral services were conducted at First Christian Church on June 24th at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Matt Wentz ofrficiating and assisted by Mikel Wagner. Special music was provided by A.J. Ives, soloist, and LaCreta Fisher, organist.
Casket bearers were Arvid Bell, Neal Christensen, Steve Fisher, Dennis Hunt, Van Lamb and James Pearson with honorary bearers Dale Bonham, Ralph Christensen, Alan Lamb and Bill Lamb.
Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Wenburg Funeral Home.
