"Mary (Stebbins) Smead Butler, daughter of Joseph18 and Mary (Stratton) Stebbins, was born in Deerfield on July 24, 1745. She married Ebenezer Smead in 1763. The couple had six children; they moved from Deerfield to Shelburne, Mass., about 1773. After the death of her first husband in 1777, Mary married Davis Butler. She died in 1815 and was survived by her husband.
There is a deed to land in Ashfield to Mary and her children (1801), but the other papers, including a great many promissory notes signed by her second husband, relate to the settlement of her estate by her brother, Asa Stebbins24. The latest papers are releases by her children and by Davis Butler, her widower."

Mary's last will, which she executed Mary 1815, as well as her estate's probate documents, are available on ancestry.com Case Number 676. She gives to her brother Asa Stebbins all the real estate of hers in Ashfield to sell and pay debts to others named in the will: granddaughter Sally Green $240; grandson William B. Phillips $240 upon him reaching the age of 21; interest to be paid annually to her husband Davis Butler each year that he lives; all residue upon her husband's death to her five children Elisha Smead, Mary Hawkes, Sarah Bardwell, Sophia Luce and Lucretia Allen. She named Asa Stebbins as executor.
