Judge of the 5th judicial district of Idaho. Alfred Budge was a prominent lawyer, judge as well as player in the affairs of southeastern Idaho. He had many achievements at the bar and on the bench. He represented some of the best elements of citizenship in the state of Idaho.
His education began in the common schools of Bear Lake County, Idaho. At age fifteen he was accepted at Brigham Young Acedemy in Provo, Utah where he stayed for three years. After serving an LDS mission he entered the law school of the University of Michigan where he would graduate in 1892. That same year he opened his law practice back home in Paris, Idaho.
It has been said of Mr. Budge that as a lawyer he always responded to the appeals of the needy, and for many years had more unremunerative cases than any other lawyer in Idaho. He was a steadfast member of the Republican Party and was a zelous supporter.
In 1894 he was elected district attorney of the fifth judicial district of Idaho. His positive immage and honesty in that position would brimg him further advancement in his political life. In 1898 he was elected prosecuting attorney of Bear Lake County, Idaho. After only two years as prosecuting attorney the Republican Party asked him to run against the popular Democratic Justice of the fifth judicial district of Idaho. In the election of 1900 he defeated his opponet. He would continue being a judge until his retirement.
