Mrs. Mary Henschel, Pioneer Kiel Resident, Is Summoned
Kiel—(Special)—Mrs. Mary Henschel, 88, a pioneer during the early days of the building of this section of Wisconsin, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Schuette, New Holstein, at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. She had been making her home with Mrs. Schuette for the past four years. Formerly Miss Mary Oemichen, she was born August 3, 1848, in Saxony, Germany, and on March 28, 1855, she migrated with her parents to the town of Meeme in Manitowoc County.
Funeral services will be held on the homestead at the home of her son, Louis, in the town of Meeme at 1:30 p.m. Friday, and at 2 o'clock at St. John's Evangelical church at Spring Valley. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. Carl Schmahl will officiate and the body will be brought to the home Thursday afternoon, where it may be viewed until the time of services.
On October 16, 1866, Miss Oemichen was married to Christian Henschel, who preceded her in death 18 years ago. Ten children were born to this union and eight survive.
The survivors are two son, Charles and Louis Henschel, both of the town of Meeme, and six daughters, Mrs. Susanna Eckardt, Kiel; Mrs. Ernst Guetschow, School Hill; Mrs. Ernst Gosse, Greenwood; Mrs. Charles Boeldt, Manitowoc; Mrs. Walter Schuette, New Holstein, and Mrs. George Wernicke of the town of Newton. There are 42 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. One son, Reinhold, and one daughter, Mrs. Edmund Ohse, preceded her in death 26 years ago.
