Notes from Osman:
Christian Gottlieb Henschel, one of the sturdy old settlers of Meeme,
died Wednesday morning, June 6. His health failed last winter and a
few weeks ago his condition became serious. He was 78 years, 6 months
and 5 days old. He was born in Seidenham, Koenig Reich, Saxon, Germany
and came to this country with his parents when thirteen years of age.
The family located in Ozaukee county where they lived for a few years
and then moved to Centerville where the deceased grew to manhood. In
1866 he was married to Mary Oemichen and they settled on a farm, which
was then all woods in Meeme.
Mr. Henschel was an honest man and a good neighbor and what more can be said of any man. He is survived by his wife and eight children as follows:
Mrs. Gustav Eckardt of Kiel, Charles and Mrs. Ernest Guetschow and Louis
on the old farm of Meeme, Mrs. Ernst Gosse of Colby, Mrs. Charles Hoeldt
of Sheboygan, Mrs. Walter Schuette of New Holstein and Mrs. George Wernecke of Newton; also 35 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from St. Johannes church near Spring Valley and was largely attended. Pastor Foesch of Mosel officiated. May his soul rest in peace.
