Rosary Friday for Joe Bartos
Rosary was recited Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Peet Chapel for Joe Bartos, 90, who died December 18 at Michael Manor Nursing Home in Douglas. Mass was celebrated by Father Terence McGovern Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Organist for the Mass was Mrs. Bob Glenn with burial in the Lusk Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Ben Wolfe, Harry Brown, Joe Klemke, Floyd Engebretsen, Dave Sheppard and Larry Eddy.
Honorary pall bearers were Clifford Cox, Helmuth Klemke, Otto Klemke, Kenneth Wright, Harry Fernau Sr., Bill Nuttal, Henry Klemke, Walter Klemke, and George Sylvester.
Joseph Paul Bartos was born on June 28, 1882 in Czechoslovakia coming to the United States with his parents, maternal grandmother, three sisters and one brother. They settled in western Nebraska later moving to Oklahoma where another sister and two brothers were born.
Mr. Bartos returned to Nebraska where in 1906 he married Minnie Wanek. The couple had four children. In 1912 he homesteaded 9 miles northwest of Keeline where he brought his family in 1914 by immigrant train. They lived there until he retired in 1945 when they moved to Lusk. In May 1969 he moved to Michael Manor Nursing home in Douglas where he lived until the time of his death.
He is survived by one son, Floyd Bartos, Keeline, two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Church of Millbrae, Calif., and Mrs. Merle Jennings of Glendora, Calif., four brothers, Adolph, Illinois, Frank, Louis and William all of Hemingford, Neb., one sister Mrs. Toni Dunham, Miami, Fla., 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, one son, Glen, three sisters, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild died previously.
