U.S. Congressman. Successful in the grain-flour industry, he served as Postmaster of St. Marys, Ohio, (1885-89), was auditor of Auglaize County, (1890-96) and served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1896. In 1899, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1903. After his term, he was superintendent of the document room of the House of Representatives, (1911-130 and served as Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives, (1913-19).
