Glenda Joan Rose, 76, of Beaverton and formerly of La Grande, died April 12 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland. Her graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Island City Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Joan was born Oct. 4, 1934, to Harry and Irma (Tameris) Riding in La Grande. She was raised in La Grande and graduated from La Grande High School. Joan also lived in Bend, Prineville, Portland and Island City. On Dec. 29, 1956, she married Thomas Gary Rose. He died May 27, 1977. Joan was a homemaker. She also worked as a clerk at Spouse Reitz, as a housekeeper at Grande Ronde Hospital and as a representative for Avon. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, swimming and sewing. She enjoyed many sports including basketball, volleyball and tennis. She later took up bowling and enjoyed league bowling for several years. She loved watching football, baseball and basketball and got to go to a baseball game a few years ago to see her favorite team, the Seattle Mariners. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Mark and Diane Rose of West Linn and Susan Rose and Keith Hatfield of Portland; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one niece. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents; and her sister, Velva Jean Myers.
