Joseph Ratcliffe Collier came to the United States, at age 16, with his three cousins, arriving in New York on 28 Sep 1848 on the YORKTOWN; he married & settled in Champaign, Ilinois where he became a US citizen in October 1856. The Colliers' moved to York, Nebraska in the late 1870s for the new opportunities it offered for their family. Joseph Ratcliffe Collier was part of the formation of the York Public Library.
