Calvin's wife and mother of his children, nee Adelaide A. ("Addie") Davis, filed for divorce from Calvin on 30 Sep 1880 and it was granted 1 Feb 1881. Meanwhile Calvin and the entire family appear in the 1880 census as being is Kansas City MO. After the divorce Addie married Charles "Edmund" Freer on 20 Sep 1881 in Detroit. It seems he died in Cayuga NY on 19 Nov 1900, where he was born in 1851.

Special to the Detroit Free Press, 4 Oct 1883, from Ann Arbor on 3 Oct 1883: A dispatch was received here tonight announcing the death at Red Wing MN of Calvin D. Bliss a former resident of Ann Arbor. It is supposed that he was killed in a railroad accident. There are two brothers of the deceased living in Ann Arbor, and one son in Detroit.

I think Calvin was in Red Wing MN because his daughter Marian was living there.
