Virginia O. Slattery, 98, formerly of Plunketts Creek Township and Pennsauken, N.J., passed away at her residence the Valley View Nursing Center Friday, Dec. 31, 2010.

She was born April 30, 1912, in Wallis Run, a daughter of Samuel and Rebecca Yeagle Jacoby.

Virginia was raised in Williamsport, where she met her husband, Joseph A. Slattery, and was married in Washington D.C. on Jan. 25, 1934. She lived in Philadelphia until 1939, lived in Pennsauken South, N.J., until 1974 and then relocated to Proctor, Pa., until 2004.

She was a member of the Church of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, where she participated in the Altar and Rosary Society and worked the Cascade Picnic for many years.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband, four brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Sean.

Virginia is survived by two sons, Samuel (Jane) Slattery of Merchantville, N.J. and Michael Slattery of Pennsauken, N.J.; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Interment will follow in the Church of the Assumption Cemetery in Cascade Township. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday afternoon from noon to 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lights of Love, c/o Valley View Nursing Center, 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, PA 17754.
