NORFOLK -- On Sept. 30, 2002, a gift from God was returned to his presence. Abijah Barkley was the son of Randell Barkley and the late Sonita LaTonya Dunbar-Barkley. His bright smile and carefree laughter will forever be missed.

He is survived by four half brothers, Randell Love Barkley Jr., Rashoan Barkley and Naquasha Barkley of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Elijah McNell of Newark, N.J.

There are no words to express the grief and sorrow felt by the extended Barkley and Dunbar families which includes: nine paternal uncles, five paternal aunts, a maternal uncle, three maternal aunts and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Bishop Barnett Karl Thouroughgood, Mdiv., Dmin., pastor and founder of New Jerusalem COGIC, officiating. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park in Chesapeake.

Abijah "the muscle man of the house" his mother said his feet never touched the ground. He would often wrestle and pin his older brother to the floor, and a nearby adult would have to come to the rescue. Still, he a was loving and adorable child.
