Mrs. Velsie Jones DeStefano, 92, of Waynetown died at 5:20 a.m., Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Crawfordsville, Ind.

She was the daughter of Carlos and Attie (Deckard) Copas, born in Thompkinsville, Ky., on June 19, 1918.

She married Clarence Ree Jones on June 6, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1961. She then married John Leonard DeStefano on July 3, 1961, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1997.

Survivors include: Daughter - Jane (husband- Dan) Ryan of Waynetown, In.; Granddaughter: Kristy (husband- Richard) Stoup of Waynetown, In.; Grandson - John Michael Ryan of Washington DC.; Great Grand daughter: Allison Michelle Stoup of Waynetown, In.

She was preceded in death by five sisters: Iova, Retie, Marie, Vealie and Evaun and four Brothers: Adolphus, Raymon, Reed and Creed Copas; and both husbands.

She lived in Mesa, Arizona, from 1970 until 1996 when she moved back to Indiana.

She attended Hackers Branch School, which was a one room school house in Mt. Herman, Kentucky.

She was a former member and officer of the Mesa, Arizona American Legion Aux. She was a : Home maker.

The funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd. Waynetown, In., with her great Nephew the Rev. Kelvin Copas officiating. Burial will be at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown, Ind.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29th, at the funeral home.
