Maria Jackson was born in 1812 in Champion, Jefferson, New York. She was the daughter of Daniel Jackson & Martha Kellogg. She was one of 12 children of which there were 7 boys & 5 girls. The Jackson family arrived in Champion, NY from Massachusetts in about 1805.

The Progenitor of the Jackson Family HENRY JACKSON (1606-1686) was purported to be of English descent. However, there is no knowledge of where in England he was from. He left London on the 3rd Apr 1635, on board the Elizabeth & Ann. He first landed in MA before settling in CT around 1639. Where the family prospered.

Maria married Ferdinand Turnacliff on 12th June 1834 in Champion, Jefferson, New York. They moved from NY to OH after their eldest child Jackson was born in 1835 Champion, New York. But before their 2nd child Amelia was born in 1837, Pittsfield, Ohio. They had a total of 6 children. Only Jackson was born in NY, the rest were born in Pittsfield, Ohio. (Jackson,Amelia, Delevan, Sally, Matilda & Seymour)

Maria's siblings Pliny, Sally, Susan, James, Elisha, Cherrill & Jesse also moved to Ohio. Jane, Jason, Daniel Jr & Belah all stayed in NY.

The Turnacliffs owned a 96 acres farm in Lorain. They appear to have prospered here. Their daughter Sally died in Pittsfield age 17 supposedly of TB, this is unverified. Another child Seymour died very young, he has 2 gravestones which have conflicting dates, one in OH & the other in MN.

Maria herself died 6 Dec 1862 in Pittsfield where she is buried in the Jackson Family Burial Ground. Her husband Ferdinand & children followed his eldest son & moved to MN about a year after Maria's death. Ferdinand never remarried and built a memorial to her in MN.
