SHERMAN HARTMAN ANSWERS SUMMONS

EXPIRES AT HIS HOME EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.

Had Contributed Large Sums to Colleges and Missionary Societies - Funeral Services Tuesday Afternoon.

Sherman Scott Hartman, 58 years od, a life-long resident of Hancock county, died at 5 o'clock Sunday morning at his home at Lima avenue and South Cory street. While he had been in poor health for the last month, he was not thought to have been in a critical condition and his death was a distinct shock to relatives and friends.

Mr. Hartman was born in Eagle township, April 25, 1861. He was a son of George and Mary J. Hartman, both of whom also were natives of Eagle township. The family moved from their farm in Findlay about 20 years ago, at that time building a house at the southeast corner of Lima avenue and South Cory street, at which place Sherman resided at the time of his death. The father died about nine years ago and the mother died in July, 1918.

Mr. Hartman never married. One sister, Mrs. Cora Mellotte died in 1910. There are no brothers or sisters surviving him. He was a faithful and consistent member of the First M. E. church here.

The Hartmans contributed large sums to various church institutions. Within the last few years Mr. Hartman had contributed upwards of $20,000. to colleges and missionary societies He gave $15,000. to Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware; $8,000 to missions and $2,000. to other worthy causes.

It was one of Mr. Hartman's last request that no flowers be sent to his funeral.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Asa James Kostle, pastor of the First M. E. church, officiating.
