She was the daughter of Sidney Crawford Olive and America B Carter of Waco, Texas. She was born in Columbus, Texas and her family moved to Waco where her father operated a lumber business. On 15 June 1893 in her parent's home she was married to Eugene Hammond Crowdus from Dallas. He promised her a new brick home in Dallas, and she got it before the marriage. The house was located at 1000 South Ervay, and she lived in this house until her death. She had one child, Sidney Crowdus, who died at the young age of 10 or 11 in 1906, and this must have been a great burden to her. She helped raise a son, J. W. Crowdus, of her husband from an earlier marriage. She had a large and beautiful garden at her home, and after the death of her child in 1906, and of her husband in 1917, according to reports she spent most of her time in this garden where she found great enjoyment and contentment. When her husband died, he was buried in Oakland Cemetery in accordance with his wishes. However, at some point before she died in 1946, she had her husband's remains transferred to Hillcrest Sparkman Cemetery. He and she are buried together there now.
