Alan Dean "Pappy" Akin was born on July 6, 1951 in Montgomery County, Tennessee, the son of John "Morgan" Akin (1909–1965) and Mary Elizabeth (Hayes) Akin (1910–2004).
He attended Montgomery Central High School and was working at Boot-Ster Manufacturing Company when he was married on February 7, 1969 as the 1st husband of Robbie Jean Clark Bumpus (1950– ), and she was the daughter of Jewell Bumpus (1922–1993) and and his wife Ruth Ella (Westerman) Bumpus (1924–2008). Dean and Robbie were eventually divorced.
Later living in Cumberland Furnace, Dickson County, Tennessee, Dean was the owner of Dean's Transmission, and he was 53 years old when he died November 19, 2004 at home.
Survivors included a son in Clarksville, a married daughter of Cunningham and two married daughters at Cumberland Furnace, six brothers, three sisters and nine grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on November 22nd at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, and burial was in McWhorter Cemetery in Cunningham.
