An Early Settler Passed Away- Robert Miller Locke was born in the state of Tennessee Oct. 2, 1835 and died at his home Feb 18, 1908, aged 72 years, 4 months and 16 days. About the year 1841 he came with his parents to Iowa and settled in Davis county and grew to manhood in the vicinity of Wesley Chappel and has been a resident of Davis county about 67 years. Feb. 10, 1863 he was joined in marriage with Rebecca Ann Taylor. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. Mary Minerva Downing and a daughter who died in infancy. Mr. Locke professed faith in Christ and united with the M.E. church about 35 years ago and continued in the pales of the church until death took him. In 1863 he became a member of the I.O.O.F. and remained in that order to the close of life. Possibly no man in the county has held membership in that order for as long a term of years. The members of the lodge of which he was a member faithfully attended him in his last illness and performed the burial service at the grave. Mr. Locke was an industrious man and secured a nice property. He was an honest man and was highly respected by his friends and acquaintances. His wife and daughter survive him and mourn their loss. Funeral services conducted by Rev. C Springer of Troy, Iowa, were held at the residence and interment occurred at Troy cemetery.
