V.M. TUTHILL, GR INDUSTRY HEAD, DIES
VICTOR M. TUTHILL, co-owner of the OLIVER MACHINERY COMPANY, died Friday at Blodgett Memorial Hospital. He was 84.
Mr. Tuthill came to Grand Rapids in 1889 after several years as Principal of Schools at Lawrence and joined the partnership of Baldwin, Rhodes and Company, which later became Baldwin, Tuthill and Bolton.
In 1910 they became associated with J.W. Oliver and the company became the Baldwin Tuthill Division of the Oliver Machinery Company. Mr. Tuthill served as Secretary of the company until his retirement in June, 1946. His son, HOWARD B. TUTHILL is Vice-President and a partner in the company.
He had been a director of Dennis Canadian Lumber Company, People's Savings Bank, Fourth National Bank, Grand Rapids National Bank, American Home Security Bank and Central Bank of Michigan. He had been a member of the Public Library and Museum Commission, a trustee of Blodgett Memorial Hospital and a trustee of Fountain Street Baptist Church.
Besides his son, he is survived by one daughter, MRS. CHARLES INSLEE. Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the home, 226 College Ave. SE, with Dr. Duncan E. Littlefair officiating.
The body will remain at Metcalf Mortuary until Monday at 10 a.m.
