Sarah was b. 3 Feb 1857, Newfield, New York; d. 3 Feb 1939, Houston, Harris County, Texas; daughter of Rev. Moses Eckert Arkills and Rachel Ann Bartlett.
On 7 May 1884, he applied for US Citizenship. He was granted that citizenship on 16 May 1884 in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska.
During President Benjamin Harrison's addminstration, Peter, a Republican, was appointed Assistant Postmaster at Alliance, Nebraska. He later resigned to accept the position of Station Agent at Alliance, Nebraska for the B & M Railroad Company.
In Rudd, Iowa, besides being a storekeeper and postmaster (appointed 24 Apr 1894), he ws the local cashier for the Huntington Elevator Company, local treasurer for two insurance companies, collector for the Floyd County, Iowa Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, as well as secretary of the school board at Rudd, Iowa.
From Rudd, the Peter Leishman Family, moved to Charles City, Iowa where Peter was the Recorder of Deeds and Wills in 1900-1901 (appointed 6 Nov 1900).
