Mr. Shackelford was born on June 30, 1932 in Grayson County the son of George Benton and Bessie Pearl (Adams) Shackelford.
He married Faye Gosnell on September 10, 1971 in Arlington and she preceded him in death October 18, 2008.
Mr. Shackelford was a Dallas police officer from 1955 to 1982 and for the Hopkins County Sheriff from 1982 to 1995.
He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954 as Military Police.
Mr. Shackelford was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by three sons, Michael Shackelford of Lewisville, Randy Shackelford and wife Pam of Paris and Larry Shackelford of Paris, daughters, Donna Box of Arlington and Nedra Smith and husband Jerry of Mesquite, sister Martha Moriarty, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Joe Shackelford, brothers, Charles Shackleford and Edd Shackelford.
Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
