George may have been born in Putnam Co, Missouri to John and Amanda True Lewis. He was a preacher and also broke horses to ride. He and Mary had nine children: Nancy Jane 1866-1867, Laura Ellen, John Franklin, Idema Uhema 1874-1877 (reportedly buried along the trail coming to Kansas), Della May Denny, Maude Edwards Humrich, #55322795, Myrtle Viola Bell, Blanche Cox, and Minnie Alice Burns. George and Mary moved back and forth from Missouri to Kansas and remained in Kansas from 1875 until their deaths. They owned farmland in Hawkeye Twp, later selling the farm and moving to Gaylord where they spent their final years.
