About 6:30 pm yesterday at her residence, No. 88? Genessee Street, died Miss Phebe Jewett, aged 80 years. The deceased had been confined to her room for several weeks and since last September had been confined to her room for several weeks, and since last September had been unable to walk. Her condition, however, had only been serious for about 10 days, and the cause of death was general congestion and breaking down of the system, and this was probably due to old age.

Miss Phebe Jewett was born in Utica and in the same house in which she died and where she always resided, November 5, 1811. She was the youngest daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Jewett. Her parents were born in New Hampshire and came to Utica about 1795, purchasing the property occupied by the deceased, which was then known as the Jewett farm. They had nine children, four sons and five daughters, all of whom are now dead, except one son, James G. Jewett of Clark Mills.

Miss Jewett was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a consistent Christian woman. She possessed a very quiet and peaceful disposition and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Besides her brother, James G., she leaves several cousins and nieces, but no near relatives. She had always enjoyed good health up to last summer and her death removes another of Utica's oldest and most respected resident.
