Born in Siler City, N.C., Mrs. Johnston was a daughter of the late George Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Cook Brooks. She was a retired employee of Central Soya and a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, Robert B. Johnston of Newberry; a daughter-in-law, Linda Johnston of Newberry; a brother, C. B. Brooks of Siler City, N.C.; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William P. Johnston Jr.
