GREAT GRANDSON OF REVOLUTIONARY WAR CAPTAIN JOHN GEORGE OVERMIRE

"He learned the saddler trade and married Eleanor Spencer, daughter of William C. Spencer, born near Somerset, O., April 26th, 1834. They were members of the Lutheran Church; he a member of the Masonic fraternity; was a Democrat until after the Civil War, then a Republican; died, December 27th, 1862, and is buried near Somerset, O." --Barnhart B. and John C. Overmyer, 1905 Overmyer History

The name is spelled "Overmire" in the 1850 census and "Overmier" in the 1860 census.

WARNING: The 1905 Overmyer History by Barnhart B. Overmyer says William died 27 Dec 1862 (during the Civil War), yet it also says William was a Democrat until AFTER the Civil War, which of course ended in 1865. Perhaps the death date is in error. William may have died Dec. 27, 1867. In any case he must have been deceased before 1870 when his children were living with his father-in-law.
