Thelma Marie Lowe Barrett

Marie Lowe Barrett, born March 28, 1927 in Springville Utah, passed away at her Springville home on April 3, 2011. Marie was born to Orval Caris (OC) Lowe and Mary Spafford, and attended schools in Springville, Utah and Sacramento, California. Marie held many jobs in Utah county and Sacramento, but her greatest accomplishment was her family.

Marie met Thomas Giles Barrett on February 1, 1947, while working at Geneva Steel Plant, and they were married four days later on February 5th, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tom and Marie were married for 46 years when Tom died August 29, 1991. Tom and Marie had five children: Kelly Thomas Barrett (born and died Jan 11 1949), Peggy Lee Barrett Nash, Thomas Ray Barrett James Paul Barrett, Ted L Barrett (died April 30, 1993)

Marie was an excellent bowler, an avid reader, and a board game extraordinaire. She often spent hours playing (and beating) her grandchildren at Yahtzee and Scrabble! She loved to spend time with her husband and children, hunting and fishing in Strawberry. Marie was an accomplished knitter and crocheter, spending countless hours crafting blankets and shawls for children in need. Marie also was generous, giving to several charities, and helping to fund missions for the LDS church. Marie will be remembered for her generosity, her commitment to her family, and her dry sense of humor.

Marie is survived by her children; Peggy Lee Barrett Nash (La Grande, OR), Thomas Ray Barrett and wife Sherry Barrett (Fountain Green, UT), James Paul Barrett (USA), daughter in law Melanie B. Herman (Va); brothers Orval Clyde Lowe and wife Mrytle (Safford, AZ), Jerry Reed Lowe and wife Linda (Pierre, SD), George S Kelly, and wife Janice (St. George, UT), Evan Scott Lowe and wife Gwen (Oahu, Hi), Billy Kent Lowe and wife Pat (Springville, UT); sisters Pauline Farrer and husband Don (Provo, UT), Lois Bartholomew and husband Dan (Springville, UT), Lela Shepherd (Robertsville, MI); 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and counting.

Marie was preceded in death by her mother and step-father – Mary Spafford and Paul J Kelly; her father and step-mother Orval C Lowe and Louise Bramell; husband Thomas Giles Barrett; sons Kelly Thomas Barrett and Ted L. Barrett ; brother Lewis J Lowe; sister Joan Kelly Wagoner; brother in law Alan Wagoner; sister in law Shirlene Harmer Lowe.

A service honoring Marie's life will be held at Wheeler Mortuary in Springville, Utah on Friday April 8th, 2011 at 11am.

Friends may join the family to share memories of Marie between 9:45 and 10:45 Friday April 8th, just prior to the service.

Services will conclude at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville on April 8th, where Marie will be laid to rest next to the love of her life and her two sons.
