Major League Baseball Player. He played Major League baseball as an outfielder for eleven seasons (1934 to 1943, 1946 to 1948) with the St. Louis Cardinals. He became a Cardinal the year after the team became the 1934 World Series Champion "Gas House Gang" Cardinals, and also played on the Cardinals 1946 World Series Champion team. His career was interrupted in the 1940s by his service in the military during World War II. He managed the Philadelphia Phillies for half a season in 1954, winning only 35 out of 77 games.
