Vito served as a Staff Sergeant & Nose Gunner on B-24H "Gallopin Ghost" #42-7714 in the 722nd Bomber Squadron, 450th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on October 23, 1942 in Rochester. His occupation upon enlistment was Roofers and slaters and it was noted that he was married.

He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and was employed by Harold H. Clapp, Inc. prior to the war.

B-24H #42-7714 took off from Manduria, Italy on a bombing mission over Regensburg, Germany. After "bombs away" they were attacked by German ME-109 fighters and were seen to be damaged by others on other flights. They crashed in Germany during the war.

Vito was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He and was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

He was first interred overseas and later re-interred here on July 14, 1949.

His brother, Corp. Benjamin J. Berardi, was also previously "Killed In Action" in Italy and they are interred next to each other.

Husband of Frances Berardi.

Father of a 14 month-old son.
