B-24H #42-7714 took off from Manduria, Italy on a bombing mission over Regensburg, Germany. After "bombs away" they were attacked by German ME-109 fighters and were seen to be damaged by others on other flights. They crashed in Germany during the war.
Vito was "Killed In Action" in this crash.
He and was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
He was first interred overseas and later re-interred here on July 14, 1949.
