Lifelong Seminole County resident Myra Jane Harris reached her final destination, HEAVEN, on Thursday, April 7th, 2011. Myra was born on January 4th, 1934, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to Hayden and Eileen (Boyd) George.

Myra graduated from Wewoka High School in 1951 and married Wilburn R. Harris on June 11, 1951 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Wilburn preceded Myra in death on December 7, 1995. She later married B.B. Cummings in August, 1996. B.B. passed away in October, 2000. Later, Myra married Orthel "Archie" Harris on May 15, 2004, in Seminole, and he survives her of the home.

Myra graduated from East Central University on August 7th, 1968 with her Bachelor of Arts in Education. Myra received her Masters of Education from East Central University in 1971 and later her Master of Ministry in October, 1998 and her Doctor of Ministry in Christian Philosophy in August, 1999. Myra was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God – Oklahoma District Council in November, 1996.

Myra taught second, fourth grades and a couple of years she also taught seventh and eighth grades at Bowlegs Public School from 1968 until her retirement in 1991. She loved her students immensely and always read from the bible in each of her classes. She prayed for each and every student. Mrs. Harris was loved by her students and known for her fairness, but also didn't hesitate to use discipline when needed.

Myra was a retired ordained minister and served as Associate Pastor at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. She taught an adult education Sunday school class and told the morning bible story to the Vacation Bible School children. Myra was dedicated to serving Jesus Chris and ministering to everyone she met. She held weekly afternoon services for over 20 years at rest homes in Wewoka and Seminole. Due to health issues in later years, Myra continued her outreach mi ministry by calling and reading bible scriptures to disabled individuals each morning.

In years past, Myra served as a volunteer chaplain at Seminole Medical Center. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary (pink lady) for over 8 years with over 1000 hours of service. Many will remember Myra as she worked in the gift shop on Friday mornings. She loved to smile and greet visitors to the hospital and pray with and for anyone in need.

Myra is preceded in death by her parents; step-dad, Yancy Posey; infant sister, Ruth George; two sisters, Bonita Schaefer and Roxie Davis; one brother, Hayden George.

She is survived by her brother, Jesse George of Edinburg, Texas; her children; Dan and Barbara Harris of Tampa, Florida, Debbie and Tim Darr of Seminole; granddaughters, Karrie and Jim Bridges, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Kristie and Paxton Reed of Glenpool, Oklahoma; great-granddaughters, Julia and Sarah Reed, Ariel Bridges and grandsons, Dusty and Trace Darr, step-sons, Junior Harris and family and Bob Harris and family of Seminole and Gerald Harris and family of Texas, step-daughter Sharon Harris and family of Houston, Texas; many nieces, nephews, cousins dear friends and dog, Smoky.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka. Services will be held on Monday April 11, 2011, at 11:00am. Pallbearers are son, Orthel ‘Junior' Harris; grandsons, Dusty and Trace Darr; Jessie Harris; Paxton Reed; Jim Bridges. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Harris, Don Posey, James Taylor and Sonny Miller. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Everyone is invited to attend and celebrate the life of Myra Harris.

Funeral Services are 11:00a.m. Monday April 11, 2011 at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Seminole, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Arrangements by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
