Robert (Bobby) Hugh Turney, 81, Somerville, met his Lord on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Somerville Church of God, with the Rev. Gary Webster and the Rev. Michael Gunter officiating, and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Somerville Church of God Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the funeral home.
Mr. Turney was born Monday, Feb. 24, 1930, in Morgan County to Henry Clay Turney and Eddie Sharp Turney, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Johnson Turney, and a sister, Jenell Turney McCary.
Mr. Turney was retired from Wolverine Tube and was owner of Bobby Turney Bulldozing until his retirement in 2006. He worked in Fairbanks, Alaska, on construction in the 1950s and worked construction in preparation for the Alaska Pipe Line in the 1960s.
Survivors include one son, Marty Turney, Somerville, Ala.; two sisters, Colleen Lemmond Johnson (Loyd), Hartselle, Ala., and Virginia Turney Howell (Joe), Hartselle, Ala.
Pallbearers will be Hugh Turney Lemmond, Barry McCary, James West, Perry Sharp, Joe Howell and Arlo Sharp.
