Murder Victim. One of the victims of the DC Beltway Sniper, he was killed riding at lawn mower at the Fitzgerald Auto Mall. A business law graduate of the University of Maryland, he became the owner of a lawn design business which specialized in brickwork, stonework and lily ponds. He had just relocated from Maryland to Virginia, concentrating his efforts on the family's Christmas tree farm. He continued to provide landscaping services to some of his customers and, against habit, was working at the auto mall that day. Sonny was a member of the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers, oftentimes providing products from his landscaping business for fundraisers. He spent numerous hours teaching the children in the Boys and Girls Club how to "plant a seed, nurture it and watch it grow." The family created "Sonny's Kids" in his memory; it provides funds for a college education to underprivileged children. In addition, a granite marker, surrounded by the blossoms he favored, has been erected at the scene of the shooting.
