Mary, 98, passed away, Monday. Mrs. Hammond was the daughter of Frank and Iota Appleman.

She has been a resident of the Lansing area for the last 65 years, having retired from Diamond Reo in 1976.

She was preceded in death by a son, Duane Smith; husband, Howard Hammond; two parents, two brothers and their wives and a nephew, Donald Appleman.

She is survived by a daughter, Joanne Love of Ormond Beach, FL; daughter-in-law, Carol Smith of El Paso, TX; step daughter, Kathy Conklin of San Diego, CA; step son, Robert Hammond of Grand Rapids, MI; six grandchildren, 13 great grand children, 9 step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren and 4 great great grandson.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service was held Friday, April 15, 2011, with Rev. William Kidd officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or Capital Area Humane Society in honor of Mary, she loved all animals.

The family is being served by the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel.
