Militia & Sheriff of the County of
Essex, Who died June 20th 1789 Æt. 70.

With a mind open, honest, & generous
With a heart alive to humanity &
compassion. He serv'd, for many years
in various stations, private, publick &
honourable, his friends, his neighbours
& his Country, with such integrity, zeal
& diligence as merited an extensive
approbation, and render'd his death
justly regreted.

Here mix'd with earth his ashes must remain,
Till death shall die & mortals rise again.
