Actress. Beginning her film career with three collaborations with Noel Coward and David Lean, the first film was "In Which We Serve" (1942); her second film was "This Happy Breed" (1943); and the third "Brief Encounter" (1945), for which she received an Oscar nomination for best actress. Her films were few and far between, concentrating on her successful stage career. A later film role was as the headmistress 'Mrs. Mackay' in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" (1969). Celia was married to the writer and traveller Peter Fleming (brother of author Ian Fleming). She died at home at 'Merrimoles' Nettlebed, the family home in Oxfordshire, and is buried next to her husband in the village churchyard of Nettlebed.
