Joan Marlene Aikin, one of two children born of Daniel and Myrna (Larsen) Peterson, on August 29, 1937 at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. She died Friday, January 14, 2011 at in her home in Norwalk, California with her husband Ramon at her side at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Joan attended Weimer Country School grades 1 to 8. She attended high school in Hardy, Nebraska and graduated in 1955. After high school she graduated from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska with a degree in teaching. She taught school in Omaha and Superior, Ne.

On December 27, 1959 she married Ramon Aikin (of Nelson, NE.) at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin. In August, 1960 Joan moved to Norwalk, California with her husband Ramon to join her mother and father.

Joan worked in banking for many years and then worked for Adams Ambulance Company in South Gate, CA, as their financial controller. She remained with Adams until she retired in 1997. In 1997, her husband Ramon retired and the two of them went on an adventure of a lifetime. They traveled for the next 10 years, visiting 48 states and much of Canada.

She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Peterson, and her brother Wilber Peterson.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ramon and her mother Myrna Peterson, her two children, Rebecca Golda of Downey, California, Robert Aikin of Whittier, California, and her five grandchildren, Mark, Joelle and Daniel Golda, Ryan & Russell Aikin.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin with Pastor Evelyn Phillips and Becky Golda officiating.

Inurnment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
