William Glenn Robbins Sr.
Business owner served during Korean War
William Glenn Robbins Sr., 75, of Chestnut Street, Berwick, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Berwick Retirement Village II.
Born May 1, 1935, in Berwick, he was the son of Cora Meyers Robbins of Berwick, and the late Ernest C. Robbins.
In his early years, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed by multiple employers including AC&F, Berwick; the Zerox Corporation of Rochester, N.Y.; Berwick Forge & Fabricating, Berwick; and Rhinehimer Bus Lines, Slocum. He also drove tractor-trailer and co-owned E&B Sales & Service.
Among his memberships are the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Berwick; Bloomsburg VFW Post 804; Harrisburg American Legion Post 945; a lifetime member of the Reliance Fire Company, Berwick, and a former member of the Air National Guard. He served at one time as constable in Berwick.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 49 years, the former Helen E. Stuka.
Surviving are his five daughters: Jennie, wife of Joseph McGrial Jr., of Berwick; Karen, wife of Charles Taylor, of Berwick; Susan, wife of Jeff Marshall, of Linden; Sally Evans of Roanoke, Va.; and Rebecca Vosburg of Berwick; three sons: William G. Robbins Jr. of Glen Lyon; David C. Robbins and his wife, JoEllen, of Corinth, Texas; and Stanley M. Robbins of Philadelphia; two sisters: Barbara Shoemaker of Berwick; and Linda Chorba of Berwick; 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick. Funeral services will begin 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Berwick, 1106 Orange St., Berwick, with John Peters, his pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Seventh Day Adventist church in his name.
