Robert grew up in Chanute, Kansas, the youngest of three children. He was involved in the Boy Scouts as a youth and was especially interested in flying, which was probably the reason he wanted and did join the U.S. Air Force following graduation from Chanute Senior High School.

While serving with the U.S. Air Force in Texas, Robert met and married his lifelong partner, Joyce Ross. Together they began their civilian life in Chanute raising two children, Richard Glen DeBolt and Belinda Gail DeBolt.

Sadly, Joyce died in Parsons, KS in July of 1986. Robert eventually found himself in the Phoenix, Arizona area where he lived for the remainder of his life. He died of natural causes in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 72.

His ashes were scattered in the Neosho River just east of his hometown, Chanute, KS, by his daughter Belinda. Robert was survived by his son, Richard Glenn DeBolt of Great Bend, Kansas, a sister, Marjorie Jean (DeBolt) Blanton (F.A.G. # 21578177) and a brother, John Clayton DeBolt of Lamar, MO.
