1850 census lists John Watkins Breedlove as being born in SC, thought his death certificate says Transylvania County, NC. He was born May 29, 1842, the son of John Watkins Breelove and Sarah Nesbet.

On August 5, 1860 John married Sarah Minerva Dehart in then Macon County, NC. They had at least 10 children together, raising them in Alarka, Nantahala and Burningtown Townships in Macon and Swain Counties, NC.

The NC Civil War Roster lists John W Breedlove as a Pvt.in Co. A. 7th Battalion NC Cavalry, CSA Co. H. Infantry Regt. Thomas' Legion, NC Troops, CSA.

John died Febreary 28,1927 in Needmore, Swain County, NC. He is buried in the Breedlove Cemetery above the rolling waters of Licklog Creek. The epitah on his stone reads "Asleep in Jesus".
