Cartoonist. Creator of the comic strip "The Sad Sack." A Walt Disney animator, he came up with the idea of a dimwitted soldier while serving in the Army during World War II in 1941. His cartoon portrayal became the image of the downtrodden G.I. doomed to perpetrate a losing battle with his own top sergeants.
