MUSCATINE, Iowa - Frances E. Frieden, 84, Muscatine, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 24 at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, 2907 Mulberry Ave. Visitation will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the funeral home. The Rev. Brenda Booth will officiate the services. Casket bearers are Don Frieden, Ron Frieden, John Frieden, Jim Frieden, Bill Thompson, and Pat Beason. Honorary casket bearer is Virgil Anderson. Burial will be at Drury Reynolds Cemetery. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at First Christian Church, Muscatine. A memorial has been established at the funeral home.

Mrs. Frieden was born February 4, 1921, in Mercer County, Illinois the daughter of John N. and Jeanette (Reed) Miller. She married Ose Floyd Frieden May 15, 1937, in Carthage, Illinois. He preceded her in death July 17, 1989.

She was a resident of Muscatine since 1990 after moving from Moline, Illinois.

She farmed with her husband and children until her husband's death. She was also the kitchen supervisor at Oakwood Nursing Home in Muscatine.

She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, e-mailing the children and grandchildren, gardening, baking, and cooking the family meals.

Survivors include four sons, Donald Frieden and wife Sherrie and Ronald Frieden and wife Linda, all of Muscatine, John Frieden of Valdosta, Georgia, and Jim Frieden and wife Leann of Blue Mound, Illinois; four daughters, Doris Frieden of Muscatine, Donna Anderson and husband Virgil of Illinois City, Illinois, Mary Thompson and husband Bill of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jeannie Beason and husband Pat of Muscatine; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Louis Miller of Manning; and a sister, Jeanette Radics of Sun City, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three children in infancy; three brothers, Earl Miller, Ira Miller, and Joe Miller; and five sisters, Gertrude Welch, Mildred Bivens, Ethel Miller-Ambers, Mary Gallagher, and Thelma Beach.
