m. Margaret Long on Apr 11,1731.

She was born in Ireland, a daughter of John Long and Sarah Jane (___) Long.

Margaret died at Shelburne, Mass. on Sep 30,1793. There is no known grave marker for Margaret, with no space next to John Boyd Sr.

John Boyd was probably among the immigrants in 1718 from Ulster, Ireland. He and his wife were warned out of Rumney Marsh, and most likely went to Taunton where Margaret Long's family had moved to. Then moved to Hopkinton / Upton, Massachusetts probably at the same time or just after when Margaret's brother John Long Jr moved to Hopkinton in 1742. And then finally locating in Shelburne, Massachusetts around 1762. Shelburne was known as Deerfield pastures at the time and became Shelburne in 1768. His residence is estimated to be up on Shelburne hill, not far from the Hill cemetery and meeting house that had been established across from the cemetery. He is listed as among the first 12 members 1770-1774 in the Shelburne Congregational church.

Children:

John 1733-1815 most likely born in Taunton. Mentioned in a New England families history journal along with father and brother David as being original settlers of Shelburne. Died in 1815 in Shelburne. Will is at Greenfield clerk office.

David 1735-1802 most likely born in Taunton. Married Sybil Taylor in Deerfield in 1770. Moved to Wilmington Vt after daughter Tryphena's birth in 1793, but before 1800. Died in Wilmington by 1802, probated in 1802.

Sarah 1737- ?? Did not move to Shelburne. Married Nathan Knowlton in Holliston in 1757,… not far from Hopkinton. No known death date or place.

Abraham 1740-1820 most likely born in Taunton before they moved to Hopkinton. Never moved to Shelburne, stayed in Hopkinton, married Hannah Hill in 1766. Bought land from father prior to them leaving for Shelburne. Settled in 1777 in Wilmington Vermont. Died in Wilmington in 1820.

Samuel 1747-1811. Record of birth in 1747 in Hopkinton. Married Sarah Amsden. Moved to Bolton (west side Lake George NY) in 1802/05 ? Died after the 1810 census. Consensus,.. wife Sarah died prior to move to Bolton, NY.

William 1749-1840. Record of birth in Hopkinton in 1749. A Mrs William Boyd is mentioned in 1780 as a member of the Shelburne Congregational church, but not William. THERE is question whether the William attached as son is correct!
