Bertha Pennington Lloyd of Raleigh, died on her 104th birthday, October 17, 2008 at Sunrise of Raleigh where she received excellent care for the past four years. Her husband, O.C. Pennington was President of the North Carolina Funeral Director's Association from 1947-1948.

Born in Chatham County October 17, 1904, she lived in Raleigh for 80 years. Mrs. Lloyd was the oldest active member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, an organizing member of the Entre Nous Book Club, a member of UDC, and secretary-treasurer of the former Pennington- Smith Funeral Home in Raleigh.

Suriving are a son, O.C. Pennington, Jr. and his wife, Susan Harper Pennington; a grandson, Bryan Cromwell Pennington and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Ferguson Pennington; two great-grandsons, Bryan Cromwell Pennington, Jr. and John Harper Pennington, all of Raleigh.

Mrs. Lloyd was married to O.C. Pennington from 1925 until his death in 1964 and to Z.L. Lloyd from 1968 until his death in 1978. Her granddaughter, Kinna Gordon Pennington, died in 2003.

A family graveside service was held on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. David Hailey officiating.
