Eula Mae York was the third child of five children born to Dennis Curtis York and his wife Louisa Caroline Williams in rural eastern Randolph County, North Carolina. Eula Mae was attending school and was always tired with little energy. Eula age 20 suddenly died at home of mitral regurgitation at 2:30 am in the night when her heart failed. Mitral valve regurgitation — or mitral regurgitation — is when your heart's mitral valve doesn't close tightly, allowing blood to flow backward in your heart. As a result, blood can't move through your heart or to the rest of your body as efficiently, making you feel tired or out of breath.

Two unmarried sisters were buried next to each other in the cemetery of the Shady Grove Baptist Church where both were faithful members.
