SMSGT Bryant Leroy "Barney" Fleming, USAF-

Bryant was a son of Ralph S. Fleming and Minnie Belieu. He graduated from Chadron High School in Nebraska and joined the United States Navy in 1940, at the age of 17. He served during World War II, and remained in the Navy after the war.

While stationed at the Santa Barbara Naval Air Station in 1946, he married Victoria Dal Vecchio.

In 1947, when the Air Force was created, Bryant joined the new branch, where he served until his retirement. During his Air Force career he served in the Berlin Airlift, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Silver Star.

After living in Japan, Hawaii, New Jersey, California and Germany, Bryant retired in 1971 and returned to Santa Barbara, California, Victoria's home town. He was a founding member of the Santa Barbara Elks Club, and a member of American Legion Post 0049.

Bryant was survived by his three sons, Philip, George and Gary.
