Vern Harris Chipman

June 12, 1933 ~ April 7, 2011

The world of Rodeo lost another Gold Card Member on April 7, 2011 Vern (Red Dog) Chipman after a long valiant fight with Lung Cancer.

Vern was born on June 12, 1933 at his parent's home in Lindon, Utah.

He graduated from Pleasant Grove High. During his late teens and 20's he helped on the Gillman farm and with his father's trucking business.

In 1951 he was drafted and served in the Navy during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy he continued to drive trucks, but his true passion was rodeo. He was a member of the Turtle Association, Rodeo Cowboy Association, and PRCA. He rode bulls, saddle broncs, and bareback horses from the 1950's thru the early 1970s. Winning the Bull Riding at such Rodeos as, San Jose Fireman's Rodeo, Prescott Arizona, Pleasant Grove's Strawberry Days Rodeo 2 times, Stockdale JC Parada Del Sol Arizona Rodeo in 1965, and also making several appearances at the World Rodeo Finals in Madison Square Garden's in the '50s.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harris and Virginia Chipman, wife Mary Chipman and brother Jim Chipman.

He is survived by his children; Travis Chipman and wife Megan, Clay Chipman, Amber Dell and husband Trent Spencer, Beau Chipman and fiancé Britni Boyer and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday April 12, 2011 at Olpin Family Mortuary 494 South 300 East; Pleasant Grove, Utah 84062

Viewing will be from 12:00-1:45pm with service at 2:00pm with internment at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Military honors conducted by the American Legion, Post 72,
