U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Oldham & Hawe’s Business College Ohio in 1869, taught school and was employed as a bookkeeper, (1870-73). He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1875 and commenced to practice law in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He was superintendent of free schools of Mason County, (1875-79) and elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress, serving (1887-89). An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and was dean of the College of Law of West Virginia University, (1906-13). U.S. Congressman Robert Lynn Hogg, was his son.
